Evangelism and Outreach
“as you did for the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me….Jesus” Matthew 25:31-46
Paducah Cooperative Ministry (PCM) – Through annually-budgeted funds, our presence on PCM Board, and volunteers, we support a vital interdenominational ministry to the hungry, the homeless, and the transient. Through our annual “Souper” Bowl Offering, Lenten Dimes for Hunger, and the PCM food basket at the church, we regularly provide food for the hungry. We have recently been active as individual members and as a congregation in building and furnishing a new Fresh Start Village for Women and Children.
Faith in Film – is an ecumenical partnership that sponsors eight movies a year at Maiden Alley Cinema. It offers the community the opportunity to view major motion pictures and to discuss the faith implications of the film for our faith journey. Movies are shown on the second Monday of each month from March to October at 6:30pm. The schedule of movies can be found here.
Living Waters for the World – is a mission of our synod, The Synod of Living Waters. In 2013 we sent a team to Kenya to install systems for the people of Kandaria and a medical clinic and an orphanage in the nearby township of Katito. We give sustaining support to these projects.
Community Kitchen is a shared ministry with Broadway United Methodist Church and others. Once a month a team prepares and serves lunch on Sunday to about 100 people in need. First Presbyterian has four teams participating. Each team serves four times a year.
Reading Camp – Our church assists Grace Episcopal Church each summer at a one-week day camp, providing reading instruction and enrichment activities for about twenty second-through-fifth-grade students recommended by their teachers. Several members work as instructors and counselors.
Winter Warm-Up Soup Luncheon – Proceeds support Child Watch and others.
Other Outreach – We regularly donate meeting space to several groups — Sanity at Noon and DAR. Through our affiliation with PC(USA) First Presbyterian supports medical, educational, and disaster missions throughout the world.
